Is a Chiropractor Just Going to Perform an Adjustment?

chiropractor

When you go to the chiropractor, you are likely looking for relief of some sort. You may have pain in your upper or lower back, stiffness in your neck, a pinched nerve, or even be suffering from headaches or migraines. Whatever it is, you want to find out exactly what a chiropractor is going to help with.

Most people make the assumption that the only thing a chiropractor is going to do is perform an adjustment. You lie down on the table, the chiropractor applies pressure and manipulates your spine in a few ways. A few cracks and pops are heard and you’re done. It’s not always that simple.

Aches and Pains May Be More than Old Age

pain

It’s easy to dismiss aches and pains as the result of getting older. You hear about it all the time. Someone bends over and then makes a comment about how they’re not getting any younger. Here’s something you need to know. Your aches and pains may be caused by something other than getting older and there may be something that you can do about it.

When’s the last time you bent over, physically exerted yourself, or picked something up and then felt it the next day? You probably blamed it on getting older and dismissed the pain as something that you can’t do anything about. The human body is very resilient and the truth is, you shouldn’t feel all of the aches and pains. Your body feels pain as a way of telling you that something is wrong.

Chiropractic Can Help with Less Obvious Aches and Pains

chiropractic

You’ll feel a lot of aches and pains throughout your lifetime. While you may go to the doctor for the ones where you think something is seriously wrong, such as with your stomach or your lungs, the aches and pains in your back may go ignored. You think it’s normal and associate it with stress or with a simple injury that you sustained.

Chiropractic care can help you with some of the aches and pains that aren’t as obvious. Diagnostic tests such as x-rays are taken to determine what is going on. You may be able to say that your neck hurts, but don’t know why it hurts or what specifically is the matter with it. The x-rays will be able to be more specific.

Alternative Pain Treatments with Spinal Decompression

spinal decompression

Many people suffer from a variety of frustrating conditions leading to back, neck and joint pain. Chronic lower back pain, sciatica, stiff joints and bulging or herniated discs in the back are often the cause of pain and discomfort that may interfere with your normal activities. Neural impingement, also known as pinched nerves, can cause pain in the back, neck, legs and joints. Besides physical discomfort and limitations with mobility, constant physical pain can have a detrimental effect on your mood and overall well-being. Pain can be distracting, and can cause excess stress and depression. You may have tried everything from physical therapy to pain medications to alleviate your pain, only to be disappointed with little or no success. After many attempts to remedy your pain, sometimes it seems like the only thing left is invasive surgery. If your feel you have run out of options, there is a treatment available that may work for you. It is safe, non-invasive, and non-surgical. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? Headaches are often a result of neck pain and back pain. You may not realize that you are in pain, however, your misaligned joints can result in nerve pressure – and send that pressure right to your head where you can experience debilitating headaches and migraines.

The solution may not be to take more pain pills. Visiting a chiropractor can provide you with a treatment plan to strengthen your back and cure you of back pain in the process.

Chiropractic Treatment of Sciatica

sciatica treatment

Sciatica is caused by the compression of the spinal nerve roots of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is a rather large and important nerve that begins in the lower back and goes down both legs. Symptoms of sciatica can include: pain in the lower back, buttocks, or legs; weakness or numbness in those areas; or tingling sensations in the leg.

There are numerous conditions that can lead to or directly cause sciatica. One such cause is spinal disc herniation, commonly known as a “slipped disc.” If the herniated disc presses on one of the nerve roots, this can cause the symptoms of sciatica to occur. Another condition that can cause these symptoms is spinal stenosis, where a narrowing of the spinal canal can cause the compression. Sciatica can also occur during the course of pregnancy, as the weight of the fetus can press against the sciatic nerve.

The Importance of Nutrition During Sciatica Treatment

nutrition for sciatica relief

Sciatica sufferers often deal with a variety of different symptoms, including a shooting pain down the leg as well as lower back pain. There are various treatments available for sciatica, but it’s also important to focus on nutrition. Many people don’t realize that nutrition plays a vital role in treatment. It can help you to lose weight, maintain proper weight, and feed the body the necessary vitamins and minerals.

Your lower back is in pain because of misalignment, a pinched nerve, and your spine may be supporting extra weight. This extra weight is not helping the situation. What you can do is begin focusing on nutrition so you can lose some of the added pounds and allow your spine to support less weight. This will foster a drastic improvement in how you feel and how effective your sciatica treatment is.
