What to Expect on your First Visit
When you arrive at our office, our receptionist will ask you to complete a few medical forms in order to have a better idea of your health history and your current health needs. However, if you have already completed the forms online prior to your appointment, this will speed up the process and see you immediately. For this reason, we do encourage all patients to submit the paperwork before their appointment so we can swiftly move forward with your examination.
Consultation
During your first visit, the doctor will review your history, concerns, and potential treatment options. They will explain how joint dysfunctions may occur, how a chiropractic adjustment is used to correct them, and the many benefits chiropractic has to offer. If you've never been adjusted before, this is a great way to have some of your questions answered so you know exactly what to expect. This consultation is designed to learn about you, your condition, expectations, and determine how chiropractic care can meet your goals.
Exam and Adjustment
After the consultation, the doctor will determine if you may benefit from chiropractic care. They will perform a complete chiropractic examination testing your reflexes and flexibility, as well as some other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent. Depending on your specific condition, we will take X-rays to help us develop the most effective treatment plan for you, and alert us of any serious spinal conditions.
Following these initial exams, and you wish to move forward, we will proceed with your first treatment. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapy, and/or soft tissue massage. You will remain fully clothed for the duration of your visit, so we recommend you wear non-restrictive clothing to make it easier to move comfortably during treatment. A portion of your adjustment may be performed while you are face down, while other adjustments may be lying on your side, sitting upright or lying on your back.
Will I be Sore following a Chiropractic Adjustment?
On occasion, some do experience little soreness following treatment. Any reported soreness after an initial adjustment is minimal and should subside within a few hours. Drinking plenty of water, using an ice pack, and engaging in light stretching after your first visit can help ease any discomfort to promote healing.
How Long will Visits Take?
This all depends on the length and severity of your condition, however, most first visits may take around 30 to 45 minutes. Follow-up visits are typically shorter, often as little as 5-10 minutes, as the treatment plan has already been determined.
How Often will I need to Return?
At the end of your first visit, the doctor will determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs and overall goals. The frequency in which you receive chiropractic care is strictly up to you and the professional judgment of the doctor. Keep in mind, chiropractic treatment is not a miracle cure or a one time fix all. Routine visits for chiropractic care are important to maintain proper spinal function and promote good health.
