All About Spinal Decompression Treatments
Back pain is an ailment that affects a large number of people around the world. Because you are constantly activating your back, it is quite common for people to experience pain. There are a wide variety of reasons why you might experience pain. One particular treatment that a lot of people find useful for a variety of different pain is spinal decompression.
Decompression is used to treat a variety of different ailments that originate from the back. You can treat ailments such as herniated discs, degenerative spinal disc disease, protruding discs, posterior facet or joint syndrome and other spinal problems using spinal decompression.
This treatment evolved from NASA scientists, who found similarities in people who went to space — they reported less back pain. After an investigation the scientists found that the improvement in the condition was due to the lack of pressure and gravity that was on the spine. Instead of having the pressure on their backs, the lack of gravity allowed the body to move to a position that reduced pain.
The treatment works by having a computer controlled spinal decompression table. The doctor will enter specific treatment information about the patient into the computer. The machine will then apply force to help relieve some of the pressure that is on the spine. The negative pressure that is applied aligns the herniated disc to retract into the original position.
Depending on the severity of the problem, the sessions will vary. You might be looking at an average of 20-30 treatments that are required over the period of one to two months. The treatments are usually over 30-35 minutes long and are over the period of a month.
